Senior photonics design engineer

Your mission
  • Specification, design and layout of Spiden's chip-based integrated photonics spectrometer ICs
  • Interface with external design houses, foundries, tool vendors, industrial and academic partners
  • Concept and implementation for automated design environment (ADE) 
  • Document activities and report protocols and findings
  • Contribute to the development of cutting-edge industry-oriented research projects in the biomedical and pharmaceutical field
  • Stay up to date with the state-of-the-art photonic design methodologies, device concepts and their implementation in hardware
  • Work on a variety of projects and at the interface with other functions
Your profile
  • M.Sc. with 6+ years or PhD with 3+ years experience in the design integrated photonics components and systems
  • Hands-on experience with design and layout of photonic ICs, preferably for sensing applications
  • Strong background in silicon device manufacturing, semiconductor physics, laser physics, electronic design methodologies and photonic validation and testing
  • Prior experience implementing automated optical design environment and proficient user of either Synposis Optodesigner, OptSim, RSoft, Luceda, Lumerical, Comsol and related software packages
  • Deep understanding of photonic building blocks used in high-speed optical communications
  • Experience in handling and manipulating large GDS files
  • Expertise in performing design rule checks (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS) checks
  • Experience in laser integration, laser specification and laser coupling is an advantage
  • Experience of scripting languages (e.g., Phyton, Skill) is a definite plus
  • Team player with the ability to integrate into a highly interdisciplinary and dynamic team, as well as working closely with spectroscopy and life science experts
  • Experience working with regulated medical devices (FDA and ISO 13485) is a plus
  • Experience in spectroscopy, biology or medicine is advantageous
  • Professional working proficiency in both English (minimum C1 level), German and French are a plus
  • Ability to travel internationally to suppliers, partners, and conferences (up to 10%)
